Signal amplifiers are electronic devices used for amplifying received signals for processing or digitization. Or
Signal amplifier is used to increase a signal`s range to match the required input range of supplying device.
Structure
Usually, signal amplifier consists of field-effect and bipolar junction transistors, capacitor, resistor and operational amplifiers. The Signal Amplifier can be divided systematically into five parts:
-Preamplifier
-Adjustable amplifier
-Offset
-Filter
-Output amplifier
Types of signal amplifier
Signal amplifiers are classified depending upon the type of signal they amplify. The signal may be in the form of frequency, current or voltage. Hence, amplifiers can be designed to increase signal voltage (voltage amp), current (buffer amp), or both (power amp), of an electronic signal.
Signal amplifiers vary in terms of filter and amplifier specifications. Filter devices allow some signal frequencies to pass while block unwanted signal . Sample-and-hold amplifiers convert signal into discrete states, provide programmable triggers, and conform to system timing parameters.
Isolation amplifiers are designed to isolate high DC levels while passing relatively small differential signals.
Signal converters have variety of form factors. Some devices mount on integrated circuits (ICs), standard DIN rails, or printed circuit boards (PCBs) that are fitted to enclosures or plug into computer backplanes
Specifications
Specifications of signal amplifier include amplification, offset, filter, tolerance, frequency range, common-mode suppression, output signal, and power supply.
