Electromagnetic locks are fail-safe locks that become unlocked in case of power cut. Electromagnetic locks consist of an electromagnet and a strike plate with the electromagnet installed on the doorframe. To report the status of the door i.e. whether it is open or close, a sensor is attached along with electromagnet. The electromagnet attracts the strike plate on getting energized. They may be direct hold or concealed. The direct hold version is mounted on the secure side of the door and frame. It is installed on the surface and so is not concealed. The shear type is embedded and so is concealed within the frame and the door.
Depending on their holding force, there electromagnetic locks are categorized into different grades, which in turn decides the current consumption.
